Mission Failed

Goodness, gracious.  Lasted til 8:30PM. Weighed in this morning and spent the day with my boyfriend juicing up all sorts of tasty fruit and veggie juices.  We started out strong and motivated but had sporadic crashes throughout the day. I took 2 naps, felt depressed, and even found myself hallucinating about food!  Then, to make it even worse, I had a volleyball game tonight and a 4 mile round trip bike ride to get there. A headache came on and I became depressed. The final straw was when my boyfriend reminded me that it was "Taco Tuesday" at our favorite local joint....

I guess I underestimated how much I love food and lost track of what it really means to be healthy. Does being "healthy" consist of prohibiting yourself from eating solid foods for ten days? Or, can one still be "healthy" by making subtle lifestyle changes?

We may have failed at a 10 day food deprivation challenge, but we haven't completely failed!!! We're still healthy, young, and motivated. So, we've committed to incorporate juicing into our regular day to day diets and buying more fruits and vegetables to have on hand and readily eatable. Seems A LOT more realistic, right?

Annie's Last Supper

After a mega fruit and vegetable shopping trip, reality sunk in! Nothin but fruit and veggie juice for 10 whole days??????? Yikes! What have we committed to?!?!

So, in attempts to "tide" me over for 10 days, I went with my boyfriend to pig out on some Costco pizza...and ice cream too!

I May or May Not Be Crazy...

There are many things I NEVER ever thought I would do...here are a couple:
  • a food-restriction diet fad
  • a blog
Well, guess what? Here I am, doing both! A 10 day food-restriction and writing a blog to prove it! Ha!

After watching "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead," a documentary by Joe Cross, I was sold!  In a nutshell, this man (Joe Cross) is 100 pounds overweight, feeling unhealthy, and even suffering from an autoimmune disease.  He's at the end of his rope and decides to do a 60 day fast that allows only fruit and vegetable juices in hopes of getting himself on the path towards a healthier lifestyle. It's fun to watch his results and quite inspiring too! I mean, I never would have thought it, but I went out the next day and bought a juicer and committed to giving it a try!

Here are the rules for my modified-60 day fast, also known as, Annie's "Ctrl+Alt+Delete":
  1. 10 days of only fresh fruit and vegetable juices
  2. Make all juices fresh, in my brand new Breville 900 juicer. And, for those of you who know about my love for bargains..I did not pay full price :) Got it at Williams & Sonoma for $89.99!
  3. Drink lots of water.
  4. Document my progress in this blog
  5. Take pictures.
  6. Weigh in and take measurements on a daily basis.
  7. Try to maintain somewhat of a social life!
And, it should also be noted that my goals for this fast are:
  • to appreciate fruits and veggies in a new way and learn to incorporate them into a daily diet after finishing the challenge
  • to flush my body
  • to lose 5 pounds
  • to test my ability to commit to such a touch challenge!
